I've worked on quite a few models for the Helix, and first of all I want to state that I love how much great and useful feedback our community provides for something we are so passionate about. ) since so many of our line 6 friends here are usually better spoken than myself. I'm not the most active on forums (not super experienced in posting. Hello! I'm Sam, one of the sound designers here at line 6. Tl:dr - If you have the guitar input on, high cut eq's, try turning them off and see if you like it after the 2.30 update. It's a great update on a great instrument. I don't know what if anything that L6 did and I don't expect them to divulge everything either (nobody REALLY wants to know how the sausage is made). I was able to make even brighter tones but it never seemed harsh.

I started exploring that by disabling the high cuts, turning the guitar input pad off, trying different mics/cabs. It probably took me about a day after the 2.30 update to realize that all my presets and new presets were sounding a touch sweeter and rounder on the high end (very scientific I know).

It wasn't that big a deal, just part of getting the sound I wanted and I was content with what Helix delivered. Like many people over the past 2 years, I turned on the guitar input pad, selected darker sounding mic/cab options or IR's, used a high cut EQ, even rolled down the tone knob on my guitars LOL. I play guitars that are known for being present/cutting/bright in the band mix - Tele, Strat, Mira. Gonna mess with that soon.To my ears, 2.30 improved the overall high end sound across the Helix. I was thinking of programming the enhancer block to the same aux switch to do the opposite of the Mimiq as i like enhancer mode in general but when i kick in the fx loop then turn enhancer block off. i find it almost too much along side the Mimiq pedal but depending what sound you're after its a thing too. Just easier for me to set it that way.Įnhancer block. In my preset i put the fx loop off by default as the aux switch i have connected to my MFC does not have bidirectional info. note on that - i have the pedal always engaged in my rack and on my MFC 101 I programmed an aux switch to toggle the fx loop. I've gotten used to achieving that unity gain (with output 2 front panel) when the fx loop is bypassed/engaged. The signal chain: i've been finding i like it a bit past the modulated effects in the chain. But i find, with my style of playing, i have to be judicious with the amount of reverb/delay/pitch in my preset unless i'm going for those lush rich appreciated chords which is a cool texture. Does the pedal add something? definitely. The effect knob on the Mimiq gives your almost a more flange/chorus effect the higher the setting. The effect of this pedal is strikingly similar to what i can get on the Axe by using the haas effect on Detune with the 40/20 ms setting along with enhance /reverb. The mimiq pedal itself would always be 'on'.Īfter a day or so messing around with the pedal a few thoughts to share. my mfc101 is roughly 10 ft away when i play so i'd like to assign an IA ( i assume) that allows me to engage/bypass the mimiq. I'll be having the mimiq setup near back of my axe fx. The trick next is how to engage this via my MFC 101. In axe edit, i assume i'll need the FX loop block in the chain probably somewhere similar to where i'd put pitch block/detune. so i need to reflect this in my signal chain as i always use stereo cabs.my thinking is that for this to work best to pan the cabs vs having them centered? or will this work like the enhancer block in a way? the whole point ive read for this pedal is its use in stereo rig. My question here is do i use stereo send/return with this pedal. So i'll lose output 2 that feeds my audio interface (which is okay for now) i use the other outputs feeding direct to my CLR's. If my understanding is right this is to be run via the fx send /return on the back of my Axe Fx. I'd love some guidance to see if my approach is correct. I'm pretty sure I know how to incorporate this into my rig. I have the Axe FX II and today will be picking this pedal up used at local guitar shop. Seeing that thread of Failure and the vid showing how he uses the TC electronics Mimiq pedal really piqued my interest.
